Bob Cohen (Econ’73) awarded C.U. Leanne Skupa-Lee Award

Robert J. Cohen - Winner of the Leanne Skupa-Lee Award

It is with great pleasure that I congratulate Bob Cohen (Econ’73) on receiving this years C.U. Leanne Skupa-Lee Award.

This award has been presented annually since 1984 to honor the most effective volunteer representative of the National Alumni Admissions Assistance Program.  It was named for the late associate director of the Alumni Association, who was instrumental in developing the highly successful student recruiting program.

Bob’s contributions to CU and in particular the NY Alumni Club are many. His spirit, guidance and dedication are second to none. Whether he’s leading us in singing the fight song, or being the great friend he is to us all – Bob Cohen is one heck of a Buff !

Thanks Bob.

Robert J Cohen  Bio

Robert Cohen (Econ’73) has been a faithful and productive NAAAP volunteer for 20 years. He is currently the sole NAAAP representative on Long Island, N.Y. Each fall and spring he participates in several important college fair programs on the Island, sometimes without CU admissions staff. He also has attended a number of fall preview programs and spring receptions. He is a perennial fixture in the “Operation Confirm” project where NAAAP members and parents call and write admitted students congratulating them and answering questions about the university.

For many years Bob has hosted, organized and financially supported summer sendoffs for confirmed New York students and their parents, usually held at a restaurant in New York City. A few years ago, Bob hosted the largest summer send-off in the country. He also works with the New York alumni chapter, raising money for area scholarships and serving on its board.

He says there’s practically nothing more inspiring and rewarding than recruiting the next class for Boulder and working with the brand new alums who find themselves in the “Big Apple” after graduating.

Bob arrived sight unseen in Boulder in the fall of 1965. Due to some military time he didn’t graduate until 1973. After graduation he stayed in the Boulder/Broomfield area starting a family and his career. He started working with the Alumni Association and the admissions office in 1986 when he moved back to Long Island and found he missed being close to campus.

Bob’s enthusiasm and long-standing loyalty to the NAAAP network and CU-Boulder makes him well-loved. He is part of an elite group of volunteers who have shared the long history of support for the admissions office programs. Hence we have great pleasure in presenting him with the Leanne Skupa-Lee Award.
